REFEREE POSITIONING VIDEO

Video clips put together by MLR Referee Manager, David Wilkinson, to explain better breakdown positioning for better, consistent views of the breakdown, as well as allow you to be in a good place to get to the next breakdown with correct timing. Fast breakdowns that do not need management, referees are preferred to be further away from the ruck, and then referees that do need management would prefer closer presence, but not within 3m of the ruck.

When we are close to in-goal, make sure to go around the in-goal side rather than following the ball, so you have a clear view of attempts at scoring. Then get back into “A-line” to control the defense.
