Uncontested Scrums

When a team does not have suitably skilled front-row players the referee will order uncontested scrums. On all occasions of uncontested scrums:

  • If you have front row players available that are not skilled in that position, they must still be used in the front row of the uncontested scrum.

  • The referee may decide to go to uncontested scrums for safety reasons as a team that does not have suitably skilled players.

The team that is the cause of uncontested scrums plays with the following number of players:

  • Injured front-row player = 14
